An autocratic book club

Hello friends. Been wanting to read more, and though I’ve begun and have a nice selection of books, so I thought it’d be amusing to “start a book club” and add one more.

Now, the “book club” I am creating here is far from its name, probably.

In this book club, there are no meetings. There are no requisite conversations, updates, reflections, forums, chats — there are no demands put upon you. There are no expectations. You can do whatever you want.

You can join, leave whenever. Or never bother. You can tag along and, when someone asks you if you’re reading the book, you can vehemently deny such disgusting possibilities and find yourself offended that you’d ever be interested in the books selected here.

In any case, there is a book chosen. The only thing that makes this a book club is a book chosen: maybe read it or not. If you read it before, maybe read it again, or not, and whatever the case: what you do before, during, or after you read the book is up to you.

But at the end of the day, the purpose of this book club is for me to read more, and hopefully read something enjoyable. Whether you share the same goal and find the selections interesting enough, so you can join along.

With this purpose equipped so I’ve granted myself full impunity and while I won’t necessarily be a tyrant, I won’t endure reading through a book I don’t want to. Hopefully you wouldn’t endure reading something you don’t want to either.

Now, the burning questions you must have: what book are you starting with? What type of books do you have in mind?

Unfortunately for the latter question I do not have a clearcut answer. It’s hard to say what makes a book show here rather than be a private read. I have a vague idea of some authors I’ve been wanting to read more of, or books I want to revisit, or books I started and wanted to finish, so I’ll probably start there.

I think the method is to take a book and read a chapter and, if it’s enjoyable, post it here. Though this doesn’t guarantee that it’ll be read to completion, it should be an effective filter.

As to the first answer, following the methodology of the above… the book is…

I selected a book for a first chapter and got dabbed on. Got annoyed enough to delay this post.

I’ll just choose this one I’m likely to finish.
