Ghosting

Such a great coinage. Since it tells the real tale between the lines.

The usual definition is to cut all contact. But let’s be more specific: to ghost is to kill the figment in another’s mind. The term suggests “ghost” as a verb, but it’s instead “a being” realized. These “ghostings” in one’s head render visible upon “departure” and thus these phantoms of mind tear heads asunder chasing a “someone” that hasn’t existed in your life for years. Where’s your beanie chair? Any idea of a relationship has long since been dead, in most cases.

A notification barrage of people not seen for a decade: does it matter? You can throw down the fundamentals of the French Revolution, and these are people you are abandoning sharing the same God given rights and everything but that doesn’t seem to change the empty footprints up the stairs.

However much we can claw at our prison walls and exchange some notes or memories the same as V for Vendetta reminiscence so it’s hard to say if you’ll scrouge enough inner warmth for the winter.

Reach deeper in the black mirror and find the animations all pretty, but the ghouls come the same. The ghoul becomes you. Where words aren’t any close to reality, and though words used to point to reality, so instead we’ll twist it to fantasies. The only thing remaining is installing your brain-neuro interface for a permanent smile.

To those who still want to champion the original definition, that someone somehow broke a contract to keep in touch with you, and now you’re abandoned, well, let’s veer it to another concept: neglect.

At what point is something qualified as neglect?

No one owes you any time, after all. No one owes you anything, actually.

It is precisely because no one owes you anything that it’s difficult to see what neglect is.

Maybe it’s a part of the contract, but if you’re being sated by mere emotional presence then you’re screwed with the oncoming AI-bending muses waiting.

There is no more contract to fulfill, really. You can say there’s some baseline you need to fulfill.

The best way to connect is to see each other’s abyss and wondering whether we’ll cross paths again.
