Global Cannibal
I lean back in my chair and swipe around on Netflix wondering what’s it got for me today. Maybe more K-Drama… maybe some anime… maybe some, ah, a critically acclaimed Latinx film, courtesy of the Goya.
Well, if none of those work out I can check out whatever’s brewing in L.A. through the local theater. Even if they shoot in New Zealand mostly and it seems they’re doing reruns of Ocean’s Eleven — perhaps it’s time to fly to Tuscany this Summer.
But that’s another day. Today I’m swinging by the library to make more leeway into some Buddhism, maybe. Plus! Taoism feels just… more right to me lately. All of the Hindu folklore seemed interesting, but I sorta lost interest in the rest after reading through Hanuman’s story. Steve Jobs would agree, probably.
I guess I’ll grab some Dunkin’ and, you know, I never understood the whole point of diners honestly. The fact that I have to tip, and the food is already more expensive, not that consistent, familiar. But I hope they work out! It reminds me: there’s this fantastic Mexican restaurant off the road a little further, but I usually settle for Chipotle anyway.
Maybe I’ll go back to Seattle. The Uber drivers always have a great story too. Talking about how it transformed in the last 20 years, that they grew up here and this is their way of living now. Usually they suggest to avoid SoDo because they haven’t gotten with it yet. Which is fine, it’s fine. They will eventually. They can’t resist.
I think the boys and I are flying to Bangkok sometime in Autumn. Do you know how much the US dollar reaches there? No point living here, and no one checks if your suits are counterfeit. A quick trip to Shenzhen maybe; I could whip out my phone while there and it’s done in 30.
I still have a bit of time before the library. It’s hard to say what to do… can’t seem to select something to listen to while I heat up my Thai food. Frankly I’ve been feeling vaguely discontent at my office job lately. Joe recommended reading The 4-Hour Workweek on my vacations to see if I can spin something. I could go a little more nomadic, maybe.
Ah, I guess I can always put on Gone with the Wind for the later day’s end — love those southern accents. I listened enough to mimic it, even if it feels a little… wrong, slightly. But they’ll accept me anyway with their eager hospitality.
Beyond the job I have to admit I’ve been a little bothered recently. Driving around my part of suburb, things just haven’t been working as well lately. The fast food clerks give me a little snark. Half the stores are closing down, mall’s been dead for a minute. I hope we figure out how to get more workers in here.
It’ll be fine. Yet I can’t help but wonder if there’s something newer to do. I’ve already generated my Ghibli knockoffs for my Insta.
But the fact is, I’ll never be one to miss out on the next big trend; I create them.
