honeymoon

A father and son walk along the shore. A little overcast of a day, but light enough to see some sparkle in the waves. Are those dolphin or shark fins?

Soaked sand poking out travel-worn rocks. Beige with bits of white and barnacle. Seaweed.

Eventually they stumble upon a pair of sandals. Most peculiar is how the end is planted into the sand, standing up.

The father makes no comment. But the child stops.

“Look papa, it’s a honeymoon!”

Before the father could ask, the child takes off his little sandal and plants it right between the other two.

“A family!”

The mother calls for them and waves. So the child kicks off the other little sandal and starts running.

Scooping up each kid sandal the father looks upon the honeymoon. Did he use to paint such pretty portraits, too?
