Indifference

I think indifference is one of the most honest emotions you’ll come across. Can’t fake it, can’t rebuke it.

Indifference is also, paradoxically, one of the most powerful emotions to wield. Despite being the null of emotion. If we measure “power” not by feeling, but instead by consequences and paths of action.

Every other emotion binds. They feed off all the excess or the energy you think you have left.

It was so confusing to find indifference as the prime emotion to inevitably aim for. Especially when younger and with naive open arms. Because living is this riddle of man being suspended between nothing and infinity, hoping to become whole, driven by emotion.

And that’s the rub: indifference is a direct affront to the common response regarding our human condition. How common it is to worship emotion, how common it is to crave for endless catharsis!

So certain we are how emotion is inescapable, we must yield, must reason them as ancestral guided chains embedded, sure warnings or pathways and hints toward what is life to you, what will be your legacy, how will you rise again and again. Where anger reminds you how much you stand for things and how rigid your back flexes against the wind or debris. Emotion the same as air; how can one even begin to conceptualize the world without? What is life without passion!

And I concede that, because of our blindspots and poor world modelling, general dimwittedness, we can’t today afford to ignore them! Emotions have a hidden reasoning to them, crafted by ancestor’s experiences and molded through centuries. A comical pair to this idea of emotions-as-embedded-past-life-experience is the idea of “uncanny valley”: humans have evolved to feel uneasy or revolted by things that seem human, but quite aren’t; a revulsion to suggest [You Are In Danger]; a past experience to suggest we have dealt with things that mimicked humans as a venus fly trap, perhaps.

But how quickly one forgets the exploits, the exploits passion lays bare. So slavish whether for recognition or comforts and even glory; scuffling on all fours hoping for any crumbs to soothe the void man is suspended in and forgotten amidst the vanity.

After all, the best way to control is through another’s passion turned vice. To be “bought out” and it’s why those who rule not only use the army, but your very emotions to bend and have you submit to their world. I mean, after all, we got some nice A/C here…

Though we might be bound to emotion, at least in our current iteration, so I still suggest indifference as the real game we’re in. How indifference destroys other’s worlds and meanings: or rather, washes them away and lets the Real flood in. The cold barren forest spritz and minted, one’s only companion.

The only path forward; that is, if you plan to stick around.

To wherever this ends.
